To not get me wrong: because every singular existence is related to a surrounding, each person should see hs. related (that can also mean through the eyes of others). The young autist cannot do this. BUT: on a rational level the adult autist should always try to get the right IDEA to these things. Itīs not enough, it canīt be the end point to conclude: I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH MY AUTISM, I am o.k. ---RELATE! By switching to such a persp. you dynamically help yourself tws. normality.

The problem is just that you are autistic. Look what the parents say: H. is not sharing his life with them. They would easily give away some of kidīs gentleness to have a more autentic, "real" contact with the boy. Itīs not fair of adult autistics to restrict the relevant theme to their notion of being "so and so". Wake up and put your surroundings view into your focus. Then the view on you is different, less pleasing! But that is the principle (to learn) challenge for autists

Most families don't "suffer" from autism. It's just not smart to piss off an autistic. We are sweet, innocent, and gentle, but we will defend ourselves if necessary, as we are the targets for bullies. We are probably more mature than any of those types of people that call us retards. We are just more sensative, and gentle.

It's truly disgusting seeing some of the insensitive comments people have made about this video. Why do they need to make this family suffer even more?

This kid no doubt will grow up to be a rapist or child molester
By: bigK6881. on 28 Nov 08, 21:55:44
Kid just needs a good ole ass whoopin. That will straighten his "autism" out.

I grew up with a brother (who is now 45 and still living with my elderly parents) who was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder AND Asperger's. Back then (70's, 80's) there was NO 'support system' for kids like these, and he essentially 'fell through the cracks'. He is depressed, pessimistic, and sometimes violent, even though he now (too late?) gets help. My wife and I were recently told by our 3 year old daughter's pediatrician, that she may 'have something'. It has been VERY stressful.

You need to accept your son as he is. I'm 30, I have Aspergers AND a masters in Special Ed. I've worked with kids like these, and I assure you, if your marriage can't survive this, it wasn't meant to be. Here's what I suggest.... Each of you needs a break now and then. Your wife should take a few days away to visit relatives or just have some space. Then you might do the same. My parents never accepted me as I was. The result-I have no love for my family anymore.

Thanks for sharing your lovely son with us. Im sorry that you had to deal with so many cruel posts. I hope you consider the sources.

I'm still trying to figure out how this kid is autistic. He might be having some minor tantrums, but lots of kids have tantrums. His speech is great. He seems very intelligent. It seems to me his parents need to get more of an education and diagnosis. I've seen lots of autistic kids. I'd say Hunter is not autistic but suffers ADHD.

This kid is NOT autistic. Get a grip. He might have ADD, but he is perfectly okay.
By: Southlakeshore. on 19 Nov 08, 00:34:44
Try living with it every day, with no support, and then see how you feel as a parent. We love our special kids, as do theses loving parents. They need support and understanding, not your judgment and ridicule.

I truly appreciate your being so open. My Son was diagnosed 2.5years ago with autism. There was no help. He was our "problem". Our Neighbors are not understanding at all. Even with the challenges I have hope. My husband was diagnosed at 4 with autism. Non verbal until 5, speech problems until 20 years old. Still has some minor affects. Now works at the same Job for 10+ years, married 13 years and 2 kids later, it's possible for him to have it all. Just remember to lovingly support him.

This is a powerful video because it is a reflection of our lives. We have an 8 yr old autistic son and can relate to your experiences, your feelings and what you go through day by day. Some people have no idea of what it is like dealing with autism as a family.Your son is precious. He reminds me a lot of our son. Our prayers are with your family and the entire autistic community. I appreciate your willingness to share.

Wow, I am in AWE over MOST of these comments. I am a special education teacher who loves all my students (with every type of disability including Autism). I look at the positive characteristics each one of my students presents, and they all are so perfect in their own way as is any child. I am REPULSED as well as UNDERSTANDING OF THOSE THAT ARE JUST IGNORANT! I am sorry you just are not OPEN AND EDUCATED ENOUGH to understand this.

You have a beautiful child, who isn't stupid, just different. Being autistic is like having a beautiful voice, but unable to sing Inside your child is very gifted, ignore those ignorant jerks out there.

i am almost 21 and i lived with my autistic stepsister for most of my life, she is 4 years younger. my stepdad started feeding her a non-glutin diet(within her routine of course) several years ago and she improved greatly. she stopped being so "unreasonable"(if that is what u would call it) and became much more calm. stick in there!

thank you for sharing my heart is with you.i have a son with autism 2 and i hate when people jusge him or call him stupid .i know and iam hoping that he to will grow up to get married and be normal as everyone else but he is 9 and he shos no light at the end of the tunnel.but iam still hopefull
By: fluffylvr. on 06 Nov 08, 01:43:50
The narration on this concerns me. Being autistic won't necessarily keep your son from experiencing those things you want for him. I'm autistic, and I fell in love, got married, held successful jobs. I'll never be able to live alone, but I don't want to anyway. I even took piano lessons for 10 years! The trick is to find the things he's good at and build on them. There are "normal" people who aren't happy. Normal doesn't equal happy. Just help him find his niche in life and he'll be happy too.
