You are getting etymologically technical. receiving an award requires the action of taking what is being offered, so he did take it, this action took place whether justified or not, otherwise the awarded money would be awaiting a claimant. However, there are such things as frivolous lawsuits and other frivolous legal actions, this was one of them. That is what I meant, but if you prefer the use of another word fine. He frivolously and unconscionably received an excessive amount.

On a personal note, I still hold my Class A license and rarely use it. Prefer to do the office routine by choice making $10-$15/hr. Those are good wages for living in northern NV. Key word is learning the computer and being able to display good typing and data entry abilities. I also have telecom wireless test experience where I was making $20/hr, but those testing jobs are far and few in between and I'm not in the ideal market for that line of work. Doesn't bother me.I'm home every night:)

Yep the job is really that demanding and hard when one works 60-70 hr work weeks where a lot of hours go unpaid. Been there done that, but already developed myself through telecom work which led to me settling down in Reno. I did get to see most of the country though, but didn't average that much /yr being a general freight trucker and there is always turnover in that industry. But yeah I just moved on because I wanted a local life for myself vs. putting up with over the road abuses.

Actually in the trucking industry, wages do suck now especially because of lack of a unionized labor force in general freight. Unions can go either way and non-unionized trucking companies like Swift and other general freight outfits pay their drivers crap.The trucking industry is not regulated that heavily and some companies cheat drivers out of their paid miles. Actually, both Charlie and Jan were right on certain points. Philosophically, I agree with Jan, but Charlie was right in that poor people get sick more often than non-poor people, so that's why they see doctors more often since medicaid entered the picture. But, Jan was absolutely correct in that if healthcare is government provided, and viewed as "free," then people don't give a rat's ass about cost, and don't shop around like they do when they're paying for something themselves.

I think Charlie Rangel did very well defending his position in this interview. He didn't persuade me to change my opinion but he held his ground, Unlike Pelosi. If we had a free market health care system, and the country had a prosperous economy, health care would still be provided for free by volunteer organizations. He's not taking into account the financial benefits of preventive medicine. It could save billions yearly. People who can barely afford health care tend to put it off until their medical expenses are ten fold. Just because the rules for a government intern are more lax and flexible than a private sector employee, it's still a worker/boss relationship. The intern can set his own hours, but he does have to work a minimum number of hours per week, as well as meet other work requirements. So, what's the fucking difference? The bottom line is that it's none of the government's business how much employers pay employees, how many hours people choose to work, and if people choose to volunteer services.

That's actually a superb observation on your part, these are indeed subconscious bodily reactions to his position being challenged in this way. The body language throughout the video is quite telling of someone with deep-rooted psychological traumas, likely inflicted upon him as a child, almost certainly by abusive parents & family. When his beliefs are challenged, they provoke great anxiety in him as they are really abstract externalisations of early psychological fears & suppressed emotion.

Bryan, if you want to give up 20 years' salary on a single missile, then go for it. You make a good argument why it's necessary. But the government should not be able to steal money from citizens who don't agree with that budget and think spending is excessive. The U.S. spends as much as the rest of the world combined, but 100% security will remain unachievable. I agree entitlement spending is bloated but really, spending is bloated across the board. There's going to have to be compromises.

Yet you oppose entitlement programs like social security, medicare, yet others feel it is more important to care for elderly, poor, infirm, etc. rather than looking for trouble overseas. Most industrialized countries spend a lot on healthcare programs but spend very little on defense because America is paying for it. Maybe there should be no government. Because some people don't even agree with collecting taxes for national defense. For example, a lot of people would be appalled that we spend a million dollars a missile to blow up a house in Iraq, which is more than 20 years' salary for many people. I guess that is more national offense than national defense, but people can't even agree on that. Politicians are so used to being fluffed and fawned over everywhere they go that they've forgotten how to handle real-world criticism.
