Does the g10 still have the mode where if you have it focus on one color that it will bring out that color and everything else will be black and white? Its a common feature in all the other canons, and I was thinking of getting this one and thats my faveorite feature and if it doesn't have it I dont know if im going to want it.

Nice cam on paper, but for it's price customer can get DSLR like Pentax K-m which is still small in terms of size (especially with DA21 or DA40mm pancake lens = pocker camera), but image quality is simply different level :)

i can't help but wonder if a g10 will suffer from dusty lens problems as the previous g9. i've had first hand experience and bunch of problems with that, so i'm afraid of the same issue arising again. for my current needs, i'm thinking of maybe trying out the sx1, so can't wait for your review on that one. always enjoying watching your very interesting videos.

As soon as I saw "Canon Powershot G10" I was freaking out, I just bought a G9 this summer and i've been thoroughly enjoying it. But I see the improvements are minor. From 12.1 MP to 14.7 I think you said, not much of a difference I guess. The improved face detection though, is Fantastic. All in all, it seems quite close to the G9. Panic session over.

Hi GDfromSMSA, I'm not sure what the exact construction of the G10 is, but it's very solid. As a non-DSLR it does have live view - that's what you saw of the lake and the face detection parts in the video. As for the 580EXII, I'd like to do a review, but it could be some time - there's several owners on the cameralabs forum though if you fancy asking them about it.

There's no competition! Definitely the 450D - or indeed almost any DSLR - if you want to shoot action. The G10 only shoots at 1.3fps (without AF) so you'll typically only have a chance to shoot one frame before the action's gone. Feel free to discuss this further in the cameralabs forums...

Hey man , I was suffering the same thing ... didnt know which one to get , but I realized the 50D is much better , the LCD resolution is almost 3 times as the 40D ... it has 15 Mpxls rather than 10 ... it has lens calibration and much more ... and excuse me but no way the 50D quality is worse than the 40D ... the one who told you so must have compared an L lens on the 40D to a noremal lens on the 50D ... although i dont think it would be that much of a difference ... anywas , Good luck :)

The 50D has been out a while now and the results have shown that it doesn't outperform the 40D in image quality, and at low light shooting, performs worse. This camera was just thrown out to the public in response to the Nikon D300. They added more megapixels without making any attempt to make those megapixels work properly. I would avoid the 50D and wait for the 60D, which I'm sure is just around the corner. That model should have all the bugs worked out of it.

The 50D will resolve more detail, but the 5D will have lower noise at higher sensitivities, while also placing less demands on the resolution of your lens. Swings and roundabouts really! But there's lots of other differences like fps, flash, screen, live view etc. Best to discuss this further on the cameralabs forums - and thanks for the offer of a donation! Im trying to decide between the 50D and the 5D. The MK2 is kinda outa my price range right now. My 2 main lenses are 50mm 1.4 EF, and my 24-70mm L series. That's a great question and the honest answer is I don't know. The 10-22mm was certainly one of the best lenses I've tested from Canon, so I'd hope it has sufficient resolution for the 50D, but until someone tries it and reports back, I can't say. Someone in the Canon section of the cameralabs forum may have tried them together though, so feel free to ask...

First off, I just want to say that your vids rock. I have a question for you regarding the Canon 10-22mm lens. I know it is compatable with the 50D, but is it a good choice? I dont have a 50D but Im seriously thinking about buying one. From everything Im hearing, people are telling me that the 50D has such high resolution that using anything less than EF L series lens will be unforgiving. Is "unforgiving" a bit of an exageration? Hi, i am very interested at buying a new DSLR, i was wondering if there might be firmware updates on canon cameras? HD video shooting is a HUGE feature to me (so i dont buy a camcorder). since the 50D has the same processor as the 5D markII, is it technically possible to upgrade the firmware so it can shoot videos too? i don't really want to spend 1000$ more for the 5D markII but i would since 1000$ is the actual cost of (average) HD camcorders.

Hi, you'll certainly get a lot of new features if you jump from the 30D to the 50D, and there's unlikely to be a successor for at least another year - although if you have EF lenses, you may also consider the 5D Mark II. That said, the 40D is also worth considering. I'm surprised Canon have included the 'CA' mode in this camera. Anyone who is going to pay for a pretty serious camera like this will use the AV mode (and should already be familiar with how Aperture Priority works). I personally think it is pointless!.

I'd keep on saving some extra money and buy the Alpha 300 instead, but... that's me. The A200 is a good camera, so is the D60. The most important thing to weigh up is how the camera feels in your hands. Go to a store and try them both, see which feels best to you.

Zoom button changes the focal length setting of the flash. At 24mm (or the wide setting) the angle of the light that comes out of the flash is large, at 105mm narrow. HSS button turns the HSS on and off, see the video for examples of HSS. The level button changes the output of the flash shown as a part of full power. 1/1 is full power, 1/2 is half etc.

Be careful not to get dust in your camera to much. Especially because the mirror is moving, dust might be drawn in. Avoid rooms which are dusty (I did it outside).

However it is my view that both lenses are stupidly sharp and stupidly amazing, but if IS is no big deal to you you should go for the non IS version and save some money

Yes it should work, but like all lenses you attach to a DSLR with a cropped sensor, the focal length will effectively be multiplied - in the case of the Canon by 1.6 times. So it will act like a 56-112mm and miss out on wide angle coverage.

i would pick the d700 over the 5d II for one main reason: auto-focus. i currently have the original 5d and it has a very weak AF system. the 5d II will share the same AF system. the one good thing about the 5d II is the video mode plus more MP. however, those things aren't as important to me.

hanzakbar, yes, it's just a door all right, but then the pressurized door of an airliner is just another door as well, we could use my kitchen's door instead since it would be the same, wouldn't it? No, I don't think so. Weather sealing pro cameras means making all doors and flaps dust and moist resistant, and it's definitively yet to see if the obviously simpler mechanism of the D700 is up to the superb sealing provided by the lever-activated door of the D300. Which I doubt.

great camera,i just got it as a present with sigma dg macro 70-300mm. i like camera but sigma is a bit awful at low aperture :) Kit lens is good enough :) at that price point pentax offers much more than canon and nikon .

Thanks for the tip... I now have a camcorder with a mic input - unlike the Sony model used for these videos - so I'll look into improving my audio. One question though - why not get a lavalier mic with a 3.5mm jack instead of an XLR model with an adapter? Don't you lose any benefits of XLR if you don't have a proper XLR input?

Thinking about sound? Get a camcorder that has a Mic-input, then get a XLR adapter from Beachtek, a XLR shotgun mic and a clip-on lavalier. My standard setup for an interview. If you're outside get a windscreen though. Shure isn't the only brand though, there's good ones like from Audio-Technica and Sennheiser. I personally like my own RODE NTG-1, pro broadcast-grade sound for $250. Good Luck!

I 'shure' will! What models do you recommend? Sadly the camcorder I currently use is a Sony which doesn't have a normal mic input - only their proprietary accessory shoe. But I may switch to a different camera in the future with a proper mic input.
