This is really no different on how industrial lenses are made in Chicago. Its just that we have better equipment. The start out with white fine sand, and they smelt it, scape the impurities off the top, and then remold it into slabs of lens glass. That slab gets cut into disks, those disks are coated with a tar-like substance and melted to the lens. The lenses are polished into their respected concavity. Finally, they are put into vacuum-electron ovens for polishing. We have way better ovens.

I do this once a year and found out you don't have to remove the circuit board just take off the little screw along the outside of the blu-ray casing and carefully slide it off. You don't have to remove the blu-rays circuit card.Just make sure you eject the disc before doing this or its a real pain.

Should I use the paper only with the chemical or cleaning the glass with a dry scrap of paper will do? I've heard that only when it's a little wet it can be used.

Good stuff, but I'd add one suggestion: Once the tissue is pulled out of the book, never set it down until you've cleaned the lense. It can pick-up a speck of dirt or other material from the desk.

There is nothing wrong with a well washed old handkerchief. I did for over forty years as a professional photographer and never had any problems. A good brush with a blower was always useful.

first error: you should blow the lens with the rubber bulb to avoid some dust or sand to be smear over the smc coating! rubbing the lens with the optical paper like you did, might cause some damage to the lens! its HAMAs cleaning fluid, they say it was designed for multicoated optics (hence the name--htmc, which stands for high transmission multi coating). anyway--it is nothing more than ISOPROPANOL (also ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or RUBBING ALCOHOL). im sure you can find one of these easily, not only those made by HAMA. thanks for wathing :)

Good using that thick metal, so it has a capacity of heat incase a cloud temporarily blocks the sun. Also, a dark color paint on the metal would help...not sure what though can handle the temp.. Insulation such as wood or foam on the sides and back can prevent heat loss in the air...you know this, but some might not.
