Think of a car, crushed in an accident. In the original accident, kinetic energy is applied to affect the damage. When they crush cars at a wrecking yard, they use the energy of the fuel they use to drive the big presses. One event happens quickly, the other at a much, (relatively) slower pace. It makes far more sense that billions of tons of rock were lifted up into the sky by a crash type event. That's a lot of altitude to gain. And would not erosion prevent the jagged edges?

I can understand the need for a bit of cognitive dissidence to handle the pain of lost. The idea that a person you love may have just ceased in all forms is a bit of a lot to take at one go. Then again no god doesn't necessarily mean no afterlife. There's a lot of interesting studies into conciousness that seem to say that it can operate away from the body.

Only if you're willing to rewrite god like we're willing to rewrite science to fit the facts. In the early 20th there was a huge belief in aether, a standing platform outside the universe on which the universe rested. aether was never disproved it just turned out that if it existed it was unmeasurable and didn't intereact with anything. Constantly trying to add god to science is like trying to add aether in. You have to keep redefining both to fit the facts and gods don't evolve like that.

Its a shame that Mr Hawkes was obviously nervous for this - his concept is truly amazing, and bears further investigation. For the very first time, thanks to him, we will be able to take a look into an alien world here on Earth, the very deepest recesses of our oceans, where all life began. It is easier to put a probe on Mars than it is to put one on the ocean floor; and he has built a machine capable of taking a human there. That is the equivalent of a ship to take a human to the Moon or Mars.

Actually I'm a 3 star CMAS diver and whilst bouyancy may negate the effects of gravity it doesn't make it any less present. The same argument can also be made a about our atmosphere. Are air balloons not subjected to gravity? Lastly, bouyancy isn't always kept neutral or else diving would be a pain in the ass. Hence the factor of gravity is very much relevant even under water, which would be the point that I was making.

Yeah, you are right that it isn't that much more far-fetched than some stuff in other religions, though usually other religions put this sorta stuff in a different supernatural realm, where much more is possible.
